“Digital evolution” for UK adverse drug reaction reporting

July 15, 2015

The UK Medicines and Healthcare Regulatory Agency (MHRA) announced the launch of the Yellow Card mobile application. Yellow Card is the “UK version” of Epidemico’s MedWatcher App that we developed as part of the WEB-RADR project. This project serves to reduce potential harm to patients by identifying new drug side effects, via encouraging mobile reporting of side effects as well as mining publicly available social media content.

The Yellow Card App complements the existing website, allowing patients and providers the ability to report side effects to the Yellow Card Scheme to help MHRA ensure that medical products are safe for patient use. It is available for download from the iTunes App Store and Google Play.

Life Sciences Minister George Freeman MP said, “The Yellow Card Scheme has played a vital role in the safety of medicines for the last 50 years and the launch of this new mobile app brings it into the 21st century.” We are excited and proud to help innovate pharmacovigilance and empower patients.
