Geospatial Data Scientist (Full time or Internship)
Job Description
We seek a Geospatial Data Scientist for our Boston-based public health informatics company. The Data Scientist would join a dynamic team of scientists, engineers, and clinicians tackling global challenges across wide range of population health domains, including infectious disease, drug safety, global land use, remote sensing, and supply chain analysis. The Data Scientist will also contribute to presentation decks, white papers, and research projects in using novel data sources for public health surveillance.
Applicants should have experience (or training) with geographic data processing and analysis tools, such as Python, R, MapReduce, Apache Spark/Storm, as well as machine learning, data visualization, data mining, geospatial analysis, and natural language processing. An ideal candidate would also have experience with statistics and domain knowledge from fields such as epidemiology, geography, ecology, bioinformatics, physics, medicine, or digital humanities. We also seek an understanding the software stack including databases, web development, and open source collaboration.
This is a customer-facing position; ability to work with enterprise clients and strong written and verbal communication are important. Off-hours work is limited but, given availability and the dynamics of public health crises, the role occasionally requires rapid responsiveness and attention on nights and weekends, both planned and unplanned.
The position will be full time, albeit with a flexible schedule. Junior applicants will be considered for an internship (20h/week). We are a diverse, multi-nationality, multi-ethnic, gender-balanced, and family friendly team. Candidates from historically underrepresented backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
