Intern: Chinese Language Analyst

Job Description

We are seeking a Chinese Language Analyst at our Boston-based public health informatics company. The analyst will

• Review online news articles related to food safety in Chinese and English acquired by our automated system;
• Identify and manually correct mistakes made by automated system;
• Provide feedback on the automated system performance and identify areas for improvement;
• Write monthly report detailing updates to the curation system and case studies of relevant breaking news in areas of food safety.

The position will require 20 hours/week, with a flexible schedule. Some hours may be performed at home, but must be in the office at least once a week. All 20 hours of the first two weeks must be in the office for training.

Requirements

• Fluency in Chinese (Mandarin) and English language, spoken and written
• Cultural literacy in Chinese Internet language (e.g. colloquial terminology used online)
• Excellent Internet search skills
• Familiarity with Google & Baidu search strategies, Weibo, Twitter, and blogging software
• Ability to take initiative and work independently
• Strong verbal and written communication skills

Bonus

• Academic background in epidemiology or public health (BSc or MSc)
• Experience with mobile health technology
• Familiarity with food contaminant and associated terms
• Cantonese language skills
